January 4, 2024 - our flight and first night in Buenos Aires

Usually, our vacations start in Vancouver, but this year, we spent New Year's Eve in Palm Springs and decided to start our next adventure there. From Palm Springs, we caught a Delta flight to Houston, where we used our points to upgrade to business class on the next 10-hour flight to Buenos Aries. 


I am not sure how much sleep Sheryl got, but I got in 7 hours of sleep on the lie-flat seats before arriving in Buenos Aries the following morning, only to leave the plane to this...

An hour and a half later, we made it out of the airport and into our ride to our hotel, The Alvear Icon, where we were lucky enough to be told our room was ready. 


After unpacking, we had a short walk along a nearby Canal and then a quick nap before our first event at Senior Tango that evening.



We were prohibited from taking photos during the show, but we snuck this last one in.

Still somewhat jet lagged over the 5-hour time change and several-hour flights, we called it a night.

  Penguins, they're everywhere, they're everywhere! This is an Argentinian base. Because of the Avian flu and COVID, we were not allowed to land here but did have the tour by Zodiak. This picture doesn't do justice to how many penguins there are, but there are hundreds of penguins on the land in this photo. The morning expedition over and back on the ship with a nice hot chocolate. A quick lunch, and then we step foot in Antarctica. Nothing says I love you more than getting your 23rd-anniversary card the same day you step onto a new continent. And here is our welcoming party. These are Adelie penguins. Penguins can be found all over the southern hemisphere, but the Emperor and Adelie penguins are found only in Antarctica. The Adélie penguin is the most common penguin here. January 9, 2024 - Welcome to the bottom of the world

 We were up bright and early today to catch a short 3-hour and 40-minute flight to Ushuaia, Argentina. No, that was not our plane, and yes, that is our cruise ship behind us (on the left). Using the Google Translate App, you will see that "Fin del mundo" translates to "End of the world". Ushuaia is the southernmost city in the world, with 83,000 residents living just below the 54th parallel south latitude. So after a bit of tourist shopping, we could officially say, "Been there, done that, got the T-shirt" (and yes, we bought a T-shirt). With a T-shirt in hand, we headed to our ship, The Seaboune Venture. This ship will be our home for the next 12 days.
